Scholarship Opportunity for DFS Doctoral Student at Forest Landscape Connectivity

Universitas Gadjah Mada in collaboration with Utrecht University is looking for doctoral student to be a Ph.D Researcher on Forest Landscape Connectivity Project in Central Kalimantan. Here are the responsibilities:

  1. Wildlife Monitoring
  2. Habitat Suitability Modelling
  3. GIS Analysis
  4. Statistical Programming
  5. Collaboration
  6. Reporting and Publication
  7. Student supervision

Requirements of this position are:

  1. An MSc. degree in a relevant field (e.g., ecology, wildlife biology, forestry, environmental science)
  2. Strong background and experience in wildlife monitoring techniques, including camera traps and acoustic monitoring
  3. Proficiency in GIS software and habitat suitability modelling
  4. Proficient in statistical programming, particularly in using R
  5. Excellent written and spoken English and Bahasa Indonesia communication skills
  6. Willingness to spend extended periods in Central Kalimantan for fieldwork
  7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  8. Ability to work independently and in a team

  1. Experienced with forest and wildlife ecology and landscape connectivity research
  2. Have previous fieldwork experience in tropical ecosystems
  3. Have strong publication record or the potential for high-impact publications.

Guest Lecture: Improving Peatland Restoration in Indonesia – Lessons Learned from 5 Years of Partnership between Australia and Indonesia

Dr. Daniel Mendham,Principal Research Scientist of The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) Australia came to Faculty of Forestry UGM on December 5th 2023. He shares his experiences in peatland restoration, specifically about his project called Gambut Kita on Kalimantan and Sumatera.

Peatland restoration is important for Indonesia (locally) and worldwide (globally). It needs more sustainable technic to restore peatland. So that, it could be beneficial for local communities, and environment. He said that local communities is a key to a successful restoration, besides technical things that already planned. It needs multi stakeholder strong collaboration, included including communities in restoration planning. As project administrator, we have to understand what peoples (communities) need because they have to execute those plans. If they don’t want to do those plans, the restoration process would be constrained. read more

PSDIK VISITS RIAU 2023

Faculty of Forestry team that consist of Head of Doctor Forestry Science, Master Forestry Science, and Profesi Insinyur went to Riau on 2023 November, 29th until 30th. We visits 3  agencies which are: P3ES, Arara Abadi, and RAPP. This visitation aims to escalate relationship between Faculty of Forestry UGM and those agencies; and also to promote postgraduate program of Faculty of Forestry UGM.

First, we went to Pusat Pengendalian Pembangunan Ekoregion Sumatera (P3ES) that located in Pekanbaru City. Head of P3ES, Puji Iswari, S.Hut., M.Si. welcomed us warmly. She invited other government agencies and private companies to join our event. There were ± 40 persons who joined this event. read more

Public Senate Meeting – Faculty of Forestry 60th Dies Natalis

Berita Monday, 4 December 2023

Public Senate Meeting in order to celebrate 60th Anniversary of Faculty of Forestry already held on October 20th 2023. Prof. Dr. Ir. Siti Nurbaya Bakar, M.Sc. as Minister of Environment and Forestry attend this event and gave speech to audience.

She gave speech about Turbulence and Paradigm of Indonesian Forestry Development. She said that environmental threats should be given attention with climate change control and law enforcement. Innovation and collaboration of multistakeholder is important to answer challenges of forest resource management. Hopefully, Faculty of Forestry UGM will always give contribution to sustainable forest resource management. read more

PSDIK Goes to Samarinda 2023

Monday, November 27th 2023 Doctor Forestry Science Study Program team (together with Master Forestry Science and Profesi Insinyur Study Program) travelled to Samarinda to promote Postgraduate Study Program of Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Gadjah Mada. Deputy Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of Faculty of Forestry Universitas Gadjah Mada accompanied us.

Promotion Event held 3 times by visitation and gathering. We visited Faculty of Forestry Mulawarman University and Regional Service Center of East Kalimantan. Lecturers and staffs of those institute welcomed us warmly. read more
